after sitting in the shed for the best part of ten years it's time to make a start on this (spring 2025)...
there are a few dents here and there but the only thing I'm gonna do is put some paint (Hammerite) on the underside of it...
as I'm using a later electric start engine the wiring loom is coming out of it...as are all the cables to be replaced by new ones...
although it has a Spanish licence plate on it I'm sure it's Italian!!..
and as luck would have it I have the rest of the parts to make the back light whole again...in a box of stuff bought from Woods when they closed down 30 years ago...
not removing runner strips either...
don't know what that dirty great hole is above the horn cover holes!!..
the sidepanels are in good dent free condition...
they're a bit short of paint though...
as you can see there are a fair amount of bits with it...
as it's gonna be a "bitsa" I don't think I'll be using this heavy original sprung seat...there's enough plastic framed seats at the back of the shed...
won't be using that headset either as I have a disc headset for it...
probably use the grey seat at the bottom as there are "spliff" burns in the tan one (not by me)...had that seat on my yellow T5 and Jack's black PX...
absolutely solid underneath...
gonna remove the stand and the brake pedal...I have a better stand than this in the shed...
no rot just a little bit of surface rust...
all in all not bad for 40+ years old...
this is the engine that's going back in it...it's a 1999 electric start 125...came out of Jack's green scooter...engine bolt was seized in...
doesn't look too good from any angle at the moment...brake shoes are well seized on...
but...with a little bit of WD40...ok a lot of WD40...
a lot of elbow grease...
and a couple of wire brushes it doesn't look too bad now...
using a camera to magnify the numbers is much easier that hanging onto a magnifying glass...
this is the stator that was on the engine that came with the rest of the scooter...
and as you can see neither this nor the engine were originally out of that frame!!..spades from a much earlier model!!..
so it's into the radio shack and out with all the bits to change it over to the later style connecter...8 amp single core cable...
and there you have it...crimper...pliers...solder sucker & wire stripper...
and of course a solder iron...
stator end tinned in situ...much easier that way...
black and blue de-soldered from stator...
new wires soldered in place...on later models the CDi earth and the lighting earth are on the same terminal...not on this one...made this easier...
neat or what!!..very professional...
amazing how easy it is with all the proper tools...took around half an hour...for reference the connecters are called "Molex"...
engine is together now...fully rebuilt stator in place...
spent some time cleaning the sh*t off the flywheel...
new kickstart...
as you can see I've opted for the earlier type clutch...mainly as I have a fair few bits left from the stuff I bought from Wood's...
having the barrel re-honed...
output shaft looking a bit better than it did in the earlier pictures...
still to put the silent blocks in...I have two types to choose from...the Indian ones supplied by VE are sh*t...4mm side movement...I think the BGM ones will do it...
looks like someone had a problem with a castle nut at some point!!..it wasn't me...
that gear selector took some cleaning...
as I said previously "life is easy when you have the proper tools"...flywheel fitted now...
and here's the aforementioned back light lens that was in with the stuff I bought from Woods of Wednesfield nearly 30 years ago...
and it fits this perfectly...new bulbs fitted...
as the frame isn't an autolube frame and the engine is I'm blanking off the hole having already removed all the drive gear...
meteor piston that also came from Woods...gudgeon pin fell out of the box years ago and is now a rusty testament to shit Italian metal...got a new one from s.i.p. for about nine quid...sorted...
this is where all the electric start wiring has come from...Jack's written off 2007 PX125...
my written off T5 Classic below it...
I have a fair few early fan cowl flat head screws so I'm gonna use them on this...
when Jack took one of his P2 engines out of another scooter rather than lift the frame off the engine he dragged the engine away...thus the scabby CDI unit...I'm hoping it works better than it looks...
one blanked off hole...I still have to put some sealer around it...
ordered this from Scooter-Center and as you can see the f*ck*n' thing doesn't fit...
original one goes in without a problem...
so I've got the micrometer on it...after market: 14.06mm...
genuine: 13.92mm...a difference of just 0.14 I know but enough to make it not fit...
after all the import duty I've paid and UPS' fees I'm well p*ss*d off now...I've had to use an old one...
ain't got a hub yet...no rush...
at least the screw fitted...
I've spent some time cleaning up the little bits on it...
spent about half hour putting the side panel rubber on...original one's are a b*st*rd to fit...luckily enough the left hand side one was already on...
horn cover just one of a couple of things that I've salvaged from the death of the black PX...sadly the headset (top & bottom) were completely f*ck*d...
apart from a dent here the frame is pretty much straight...I can live with that...
indicators are definitely not oem...little sticker inside says max 10w!!..normally 21w...
as you can see all the original wiring has been removed...
don't know what those drilled holes are for down both sides of the floor!!..
the stand has been removed...will be the first thing back on when the floor is painted...
